Corinthians 15:58
Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.
What does it mean to be steadfast and immovable?
The word “steadfast” is used to connote fixed or secured in position, solid and firm in substance, unshaken, and resolute (Oxford English Dictionary, 2nd Edition, Vol. VII). The word “immovable” is used to indicate that a person or thing is not subject to change, unalterable, and firmly fixed; it also suggests the quality of being unyielding and incapable of being diverted from one’s purpose (Oxford English Dictionary, 2nd Edition, Vol XVI). Thus, a person who is steadfast and immovable is solid, firm, resolute, firmly fixed, and incapable of being diverted from a primary purpose or mission.
The meaning of “abounding” is overflowing. And so, when we get a good grasp of the meaning of resurrection, we do more than what is required to serving His kingdom's purpose. We are motivated to do work of the Lord always and there’s no waning in doing it. Christian ministry is not easy. It is in fact labor to the point of toil. But once we experience the goodness of God and we have confidence in what Jesus did on the cross, it moves us to stability and service. We just keep obeying what God is telling us to do, always fired up for the Lord, and the steadfastness and immovability of our faith is realized.
Prayer :
“Father God, thank you for the gift of love you have given us. We thank you for what Jesus did on the cross. He died in order to save us from all of our sins. I want to remain in your steadfast in love, and serve you. Please guide me with Your Holy Spirit and finish what you started in my life. I ask this in the mighty name of Jesus, AMEN ”
Confidence in the resurrection prompts us to stability and service.
