REFLECTION by Viola Villena
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” (Luke 18:16). Many times we neglect to teach our kids. We think they are still young to learn about God and His goodness. We think that they will not understand when we talk about God’s infinite love and how as young as they are, they have to fear God and obey His teachings (“Come, my children, listen to me, I will teach you the fear of the Lord” Psalm 34:11).
Parenting is never easy, and every parent would wish his/her child to grow beautifully and have a prosperous future. So how do we achieve this? Every day, we learn new things and we have to learn with our kids. God is amazing how He has set the mind and the heart to form obedience. Children listen to their parents automatically as they grow day by day and this is a gift from God. God has planned this so that children will have guidance from their parents because like God, parents give their children unconditional love and no matter what happens, parents do not leave nor forsake their children. The Lord says “Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction; don’t neglect your mother’s teaching; for they are a graceful wreath on your head and beads for your neck.” Proverbs 1:8-9
As parents, we take our cue from God as to when we teach our children. We pray for His guidance for our children to listen to us. We pray for God to dwell in them so that they become obedient, values-oriented, and spirit-filled Christians. And we have to start as soon as we can because the teachings about the Lord become so enduring that children become easily immersed in these at the young stage of their lives and keep these teachings with them throughout the years. We inculcate in their minds and hearts how amazing God is. We think they will not understand, but trust the Lord, and children will listen.
Declaration Prayer
Father, You are our ultimate source of all graces. You are the Father of all children who you love unceasingly. Thank you for our children who are so pure and innocent, filled with genuine goodness in their hearts. We plea that you give us the wisdom to teach our children. We pray that our children will listen and keep in their hearts the truth about your words and promises. Children will listen because they are Yours and their faith is strong that even they do not see you, they believe and trust in you with amazement. You hear their prayers and you grant their wishes. We thank you for this blessing Father in praise and glory of your name. Amen. "
