As we grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ, we are required to gradually put away these aspects of our speech which has its roots in the unregenerate old man identity with worldly and often sexual overtones. Those who hear us (whether our brethren or not) will see the fruits coming out of our mouths and they will know whether we are simply verbal professers of Christ but witnessing no transformation or seeing an actual living testimony of Christ Himself which is the work of His grace working in you regarding progressive sanctification because of your obedience to His instructions. Take heed to yourself and to the Word and walk circumspectly as wise in heart of what you have learned in the Holy Spirit and not as fools in feeding the carnal nature which brings shame and disgrace to you and therefore you cannot please God. Prepare to confess, renounce and repent if and when He leads you. Remember for every idle word we speak we will give account of it on the day of judgment. By this Christ will weigh things up and rightly judge if our speech condemns or acquit us. You will find this cross reference in Matthew 12:36-37.
