COURAGE TO GO ON
Devotion by Kevin Garcia
Last year, I had a humbling experience where I was cut in our school basketball varsity team. I was shocked because I did my very best and even some of my teammates were surprised too. I got very disappointed with myself, I felt like I also disappointed my parents and my family. However when I spoke with my parents, they gave me encouragement instead of pointing out what I did wrong. When I opened my bible that day, the Lord spoke to me through this verse from Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." This verse gave me comfort that I can trust God to be there even in disappointments. The Holy Spirit has helped me as I sought help from Jesus to get up everyday, to train hard and to be better. I don't compete with anyone, I only compete with myself and my previous performance. I may have cried for a moment, but with the help of Jesus, I stood up and fought again. There is no reason to give up, for the Lord will give us the courage to go on.
